Eight Straight Wins Have the MLS Cup Board Pricing the Union Fourth From Sixth Place in the East

Polymarket had the Union at 8% to win MLS Cup on October 16, 2026, fourth of 30 clubs, which means the market rates a club sixth in the East on its 12-0-2 run since May, not its full record.

The Philadelphia Union winning streak reached eight matches on October 14, 2026, when the Union beat the Chicago Fire 3-1 at Soldier Field in Chicago and extended a club-record unbeaten run to 14 matches, according to the Associated Press report carried by ESPN. Bruno Damiani scored twice after Milan Iloski's equalizer, and Cavan Sullivan's 14th assist of the season gave him 21 goal contributions, the MLS record for a teenager. The Union have not lost since a 6-4 defeat at Inter Miami on May 24.

The MLS Cup board prices the run, not the table. On October 16, 2026, Polymarket had the Union at 8% to win MLS Cup 2026 and Kalshi had them at 9%, fourth on the 30-club board behind Nashville SC at 20% on Polymarket, Inter Miami CF at 14% on Polymarket and the Vancouver Whitecaps at 14% on Kalshi. The Union are sixth in the Eastern Conference with 45 points from 29 matches, so a fourth-place price means the market is treating the club's summer as the better guide to its November than its season total.

How the Union Beat Chicago

The match turned before halftime. Maren Haile-Selassie put Chicago ahead in the 44th minute, but Fire defender Jack Elliott had been booked in the 41st minute and was booked again in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, which sent him off and left Chicago a man down for the second half. All three Union goals came with the extra man: Iloski tied it four minutes into the second half for his sixth goal in four matches and 18th of the season, and Damiani scored in the 55th and 67th minutes, giving him 11. Andre Blake made three saves.

Sullivan, who turned 17 this season, assisted Damiani's first goal. His 21 goal contributions are the most by a teenager in league history, the AP reported. The win ended a three-match winning run for Chicago, which had beaten the Union 2-1 in Chester at the end of March.

What Changed Under Ryan Richter

The streak has a clear starting point. The Union are 12-0-2 under interim coach Ryan Richter, who replaced Bradley Carnell at the end of May during the World Cup break, the AP reported. Before the change the club was last in the Eastern Conference. Since it, the Union have climbed to sixth, with a record of 13 wins, 10 losses and six draws over the full season.

That split is the whole reason the price looks the way it does. A club with 45 points after 29 matches is a playoff team, not a favorite, if the season is read as one block. A club that has taken 38 of a possible 42 points over its last 14 matches is something else, and the MLS Cup board is pricing the second version. Polymarket's 8% and Kalshi's 9% put Philadelphia above every Eastern Conference club except Nashville and Inter Miami, including New England, Chicago and Charlotte, which all sit above the Union in the table.

The Eastern Conference Race to Decision Day

The table after the October 14 matches shows how tight the middle of the East is. Nashville SC leads with 66 points, Inter Miami has 52, New England 49, Chicago 48, Charlotte 46 and the Union 45, all from 29 matches. Orlando City is seventh with 38, and the New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati have 36 each, Cincinnati with a match in hand.

The positions matter because of how the playoffs are built. The top seven clubs in each conference go straight to a best-of-three first round, and the eighth- and ninth-placed clubs play a single wild-card match for the right to face the conference's top seed. The club with the better regular-season record hosts in every round except the middle match of the best-of-three series. The Union sit nine points clear of eighth place and three points behind fourth-place Chicago, so the five remaining matches are about seeding and home field as much as qualification.

Where the Union Sit on the MLS Cup Board

The three clubs priced above Philadelphia all have more points than the Union. Nashville SC has 66 points from a 20-3-6 record and leads the East by 14 points; Kalshi had Nashville at 23% on October 16, 2026, three points above Polymarket's 20%, the widest gap between the two venues among the leading clubs. Inter Miami CF is second in the East with 52 points, and the Vancouver Whitecaps lead the Western Conference with 52. St. Louis City, second in the West with 51 points, sat just behind the Union at 7% on Polymarket and 9% on Kalshi, which means the top four on the board are the two conference leaders, Inter Miami and the Union.

That ordering says the market rates the Union's form above the records of several clubs with more points, including St. Louis and FC Dallas in the West and three clubs above Philadelphia in its own conference. It also says the market still sees a real gap between the Union and the top three: Nashville's best price is more than twice Philadelphia's on Polymarket, which means a club with the league's best record remains the clear favorite even against the Union's eight-match run.

The Case Against the Union's Price

The strongest objection to a fourth-place price is the opponent list. The Union's last five regular-season matches include Charlotte and New England, two clubs directly above them in the table, plus a trip to Nashville, the conference leader with 66 points. A run that started against the bottom half of the league would be priced differently from one that holds up against those three, and the board will learn which it is before the playoffs begin on November 18. The win in Chicago also came against ten men for the whole second half, context the 3-1 scoreline does not show.

There is also the knockout format to weigh. After the first round, every playoff match is a single game with extra time and penalties if needed, and an 8% price on Polymarket on October 16, 2026 still makes the Union far more likely to fall short than to lift the Cup. The price says the Union are among the strongest clubs in the league by form; it does not say they are likely to win it.

How the MLS Cup Market Settles

Kalshi's MLS Cup Champion event pays Yes on the Union's contract if Philadelphia is the 2026 MLS Cup champion, with an expected expiration of December 25, 2026. Polymarket's MLS Cup Winner 2026 market resolves on the club that wins the 2026 MLS Cup, settles a club's contract No as soon as it becomes impossible for that club to win, and uses official Major League Soccer information as its primary source. MLS Cup 2026 is scheduled for December 18.
