Baltimore's Slide Moved the AFC North Board to Cincinnati, Not to the Steelers Who Share First Place

Kalshi cut the Ravens from 48% to 23% to win the AFC North between October 23 and October 29, 2026, yet the 5-2 Steelers rose only to 19%, which means the market reads Pittsburgh's close wins as a weaker claim than Cincinnati's margins.

The Steelers' AFC North odds barely moved in the week Baltimore's hold on the division fell apart. Between October 23 and October 29, 2026, Kalshi cut the Baltimore Ravens from 48% to 23% to win the AFC North after a 35-13 home loss to Cincinnati, and the Bengals rose from 32% on both venues to 43% on Polymarket. The Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat the New Orleans Saints 16-10 in Paris on October 25 to reach 5-2 and share first place, went from 16% to 19% on both Kalshi and Polymarket. The market handed almost all of the Ravens' lost share to a 4-2 team the Steelers have already beaten.

The results are on the record in ESPN's game summaries and standings. The Steelers' win at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, the NFL's first regular-season game in France according to the Associated Press game story, was built on three Chris Boswell field goals and a 4-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Darnell Washington. On the same day Cincinnati scored on its first five possessions of the second half at Baltimore. The question for Pennsylvania's club is why a share of first place on October 29, 2026 is worth less than a fifth of the division price.

What the AFC North Board Says After Week 7

On October 29, 2026, Polymarket had the Bengals at 43% to win the division, the best price for Cincinnati, with Kalshi at 45%. Kalshi had the Ravens at 23% and Polymarket at 25%. Both venues had the Steelers at 19%, and Polymarket had the Cleveland Browns, the other 5-2 team, at 13% against Kalshi's 14%. Read together, those prices say the market expects the team now in third place to finish first, and rates each of the two co-leaders below the club that sits behind them.

The movement is the clearer signal. On October 16, before the Steelers' win at Tampa Bay, Kalshi had them at 9% and Polymarket at 10%. They have won both games since and added ten points. The Ravens, priced at 62% on Kalshi on October 16, have lost two straight, to Cleveland and Cincinnati, and lost 39 points. The Bengals took most of what Baltimore gave up. Kalshi has matched about 2.73 million contracts on the board and Polymarket about $73.9K, and about 831,000 of the Kalshi contracts are on the Steelers, which means the price is not a thin one that a few orders could move.

Why the Market Prefers Cincinnati's 4-2 to Pittsburgh's 5-2

What the price rests on is the gap between record and margin. Through seven games the Steelers have scored 153 points and allowed 138, a margin of 15. Four of their five wins came by seven points or fewer: 20-13 over Atlanta, 30-27 over Cincinnati, 26-19 at Tampa Bay and 16-10 over New Orleans. The two losses were a 20-3 defeat at New England and a 27-24 loss at Cleveland on October 1. Cincinnati, through six games, has scored 163 and allowed 122, a margin of 41, and the Associated Press reported on October 29 that Joe Burrow has thrown four touchdown passes without an interception in each of his last two games, with the Bengals going into November healthy.

The market treats a team that wins by small margins as a team whose record overstates it, and a team that wins big as one whose record understates it. On that reading the Steelers' five wins and the Bengals' four are not far apart in quality, and Cincinnati has an extra game to play: the Bengals have played six games to Pittsburgh's seven, because their bye has already come.

Why the Browns Sit Below the Steelers

The same logic explains the bottom of the board. Cleveland is 5-2 and holds the tiebreaker over Pittsburgh, yet Polymarket had the Browns at 13% on October 29, 2026, below the Steelers, because their margin is negative: 133 points scored and 146 allowed. They lost 34-10 at Jacksonville in the opener and 17-12 to the Jets on October 11, and all five of their wins came by four points or fewer, including 13-10 over Baltimore on October 18. Baltimore runs the other way: 4-3 with 169 points scored and 167 allowed, a team whose 23% on Kalshi on October 29 rests on wins of 41-23 at Indianapolis and 34-31 over Dallas before two straight division losses. The board does not rank the division by margin alone: the Ravens, third on that measure, are priced above the Steelers, second, which means the market still credits Baltimore with something this season's scores have not yet shown.

The Case Against the Market's Read

The strongest argument against the price is that the Steelers own the tiebreaker the board seems to ignore. They beat Cincinnati 30-27 at Acrisure Stadium on September 27, and they get the Bengals again in Cincinnati on November 15. A team that sweeps the season series with its main rival does not need to match that rival's point differential; it needs to finish level and hold the head-to-head. A reader who holds that view would add that the Steelers have now beaten Atlanta, Indianapolis, Tampa Bay and New Orleans without a loss to a team outside the division since September 20, and that close wins over ordinary teams are still wins in the standings.

The answer the market gives is the Browns. Cleveland beat the Steelers 27-24 on October 1, holds the head-to-head edge for now, and comes to Pittsburgh on November 1 for sole possession of first place. ESPN's standings of October 29, 2026 list the Browns third in the AFC seeding and the Steelers sixth, which means Cleveland is the team the tiebreakers currently favor. The Steelers' own path to the division runs through two division games two weeks apart.

What Would Change the AFC North Read

Catalysts: the Browns at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday, November 1, at 1 p.m. Eastern; the Steelers at Cincinnati on Sunday night, November 15; the Ravens at Pittsburgh on December 20; and the Steelers at Baltimore on the season's final weekend.

Invalidation: the market's read is wrong if the Steelers beat Cleveland on November 1 and Cincinnati on November 15. That would make them 7-2 with a season sweep of Cincinnati and a split with Cleveland, and a price still under a quarter at that point would be the market discounting the standings rather than reading them.

The other side: if the Bengals beat Tennessee at home on November 1 and the Steelers lose to Cleveland, Cincinnati would sit a game behind the Browns with the Steelers half a game behind Cincinnati, and the board's preference for the Bengals would look like the right call made early.

What Comes Next for the Steelers

The next dated beat is Sunday, November 1: the Browns at the Steelers at 1 p.m. and Tennessee at the Bengals at the same hour, with the Ravens at Buffalo. The Steelers then have the week of November 8 off before the Cincinnati game, and on November 22 they visit the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the season's one meeting of Pennsylvania's two NFL clubs. The live board on the Steelers AFC North market page carries both venues' current prices, the Steelers AFC Championship market prices the longer road, and the sports hub collects the rest of Pennsylvania's season-long boards.
