Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania governor market
The state contract is the Pennsylvania governor market, and it asks a party question rather than a personal one. Kalshi lists two contracts in its Pennsylvania governor event: one pays if a representative of the Democratic Party is inaugurated as governor pursuant to the 2026 election, the other on the same test for the Republican Party. Kalshi attaches Shapiro's name to the Democratic contract and Stacy Garrity's to the Republican one, but those are display labels, and the rule itself names no person. Polymarket asks whether the Democrats or the Republicans win the race, and it counts a candidate as representing a party when he or she is that party's nominee.
Shapiro is on the contract as the Democratic nominee, on a joint ticket with Austin Davis as his running mate. Beaver County's official list of candidates, dated September 14, 2026, prints three tickets for governor and lieutenant governor: Shapiro and Davis for the Democrats, Garrity and Jason Richey for the Republicans, and Ken Krawchuk and John Thomas for the Libertarians. No contract listed on this site resolves on Shapiro by name, and the market rows on this page carry the party pair itself.
Current office and record
Shapiro is the 48th Governor of Pennsylvania, in office since January 17, 2023, when he succeeded Tom Wolf. That is how Wikidata's position-held statement for him reads, with no end date entered against the term, and the governor's office page, read on November 5, 2026, describes him the same way: the 48th Governor of the Commonwealth, sworn in to the office in January 2023. His party is the Democratic Party.
Two earlier offices appear in both sources. He was Pennsylvania Attorney General from January 17, 2017 to January 17, 2023, succeeding Bruce Beemer, and before that he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, beginning in January 2005. The governor's office also lists him as chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2011 to 2017. Those dates are the whole of what this page states about his career, and it adds nothing to them. The office line is read again at least every thirty days, because a claim about who holds an office goes stale faster than the rest of a page.
What has moved the market
Three dated events sit behind the contract. On October 22, 2026, the Franklin & Marshall College Poll released a survey of registered voters taken October 7 to 18 that put Shapiro twenty-three points ahead of Garrity among likely voters, and the venues kept the Democratic ticket near the top of the price range from then to Election Day. On November 2, 2026, the Department of State set out the Election Day rules: polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., mail ballots due at the county boards by 8 p.m., and provisional, military and overseas ballots counted after Election Day.
The election itself was the largest event. The Associated Press called the race for Shapiro one minute after the polls closed at 8 p.m. on November 3, 2026, according to City & State Pennsylvania, and NBC News also projects him the winner. In the unofficial results NBC News published at 9:49 a.m. Eastern on November 5, 2026, with nearly all of the expected vote counted, Shapiro had 3,006,519 votes to Garrity's 1,907,499, a lead of more than 1.09 million votes, or about twenty-two points. The venues' prices on the Democratic side followed the call. The story on the result sets out what the market had priced beforehand, and the mail-ballot story covers the ballots cast before Election Day.
What happens next
The count is unofficial until the counties certify it. Under the Department of State's 2026 general election calendar, county boards begin computing and canvassing returns by 9 a.m. on November 6, unofficial returns for statewide offices are due to the Secretary of the Commonwealth by 5 p.m. on November 10, the same deadline that applies to military and overseas ballots, and November 23, 2026 is the last day for the 67 county boards to certify official returns. The calendar's statewide recount rule applies only to a far narrower margin than this one.
The two venues settle on different events. Polymarket resolves once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC have all called the race for the same candidate, and otherwise on the official certification. Kalshi's test is the party of the governor inaugurated pursuant to the 2026 election, with an expected settlement of January 17, 2027, and its rule allows an earlier determination once a consensus of media organizations projects the winner. The AP and NBC News have called the race for Shapiro; the governor market page follows where each venue stands. Next review: November 19, 2026. The state's other election markets are on the Pennsylvania elections page, and the rest of its political boards are under Pennsylvania politics markets.
Common questions
Do the Pennsylvania governor odds price Josh Shapiro?
No. The contract pays on which party's representative is inaugurated as governor of Pennsylvania pursuant to the 2026 election, so it settles on a party rather than on a person. Kalshi labels its Democratic contract with Shapiro's name, but no contract listed on this site resolves on him by name.
What office does Josh Shapiro hold?
Governor of Pennsylvania, the 48th, in office since January 17, 2023, when he succeeded Tom Wolf. Wikidata and the governor's office page agreed on November 5, 2026; before that he was Pennsylvania Attorney General from 2017 to 2023.
Did Josh Shapiro win the 2026 Pennsylvania governor race?
Yes, in unofficial results. The Associated Press called the race for him one minute after the polls closed on November 3, 2026, according to City & State Pennsylvania, and NBC News also projects him the winner over Republican Stacy Garrity; the count stays unofficial until the counties certify it.
How does the Pennsylvania governor contract settle?
Each venue on its own rule. Polymarket resolves once the Associated Press, Fox News and NBC all call the race for the same candidate, otherwise on certification; Kalshi tests the party of the governor inaugurated pursuant to the 2026 election, with an expected settlement of January 17, 2027, and allows an earlier determination on a media consensus.
When will the 2026 Pennsylvania governor result be official?
When the 67 county boards certify official returns, and November 23, 2026 is the last day for them to do so under the Department of State's 2026 general election calendar. Unofficial statewide returns are due to the Secretary of the Commonwealth by 5 p.m. on November 10, 2026.
